Get Back On The Track With Therapy Options In Indianapolis |
|
Drivers willing to fly around the famous oval in Indianapolis at more than 200 miles per hour seem a bit crazy to some. Add to that craziness the insanity of going around in circles…on purpose. Most people would think they are in need of therapy.
But how many times have you felt like your life was going in circles? Maybe you felt like you were getting nowhere fast. If only someone would wave a checkered flag and stop the madness.
I don’t have a checkered flag to wave but I am waving you in to the pits. Throughout the race a driver will bring their car in for a precious few seconds to have the tires changed or to get refueled, or maybe to make a few adjustments to a component on the car so that it will run better. We too sometimes find ourselves in need of a few adjustments or refueling.
That driver has mechanics that specialize in working on race cars. Therapists are specialists who understand how to repair and tune-up the human mind.
Priorities get out of alignment. Stress not dealt with creates unnecessary drag. Out of control emotions get the best of us and we find ourselves unable to steer. If problems like these are not addressed we may end up heading right in to the wall.
Whether through normal wear and tear or particular injuries caused by
flying relational debris, a good therapist will work with you to help
you regain emotional health and stability. When a mechanic goes to
work on a million dollar race car you can be sure they are using the
right tools. Similarly, a therapist knows what to pull out of their
tool box. They will know when to listen and when to talk.
It might be tough to listen to a car’s engine during a race. They have
computers to do the listening. I do know that when I take my vehicle
to the shop my mechanic can make sense out of the knocking, pinging,
grinding, and clunking. A therapist likely to do more listening than
talking. As they listen to you share your story they will be able to
hear what is going on in your engine as well.
Progress may be slow at times but don’t get discouraged. A top notch
pit crew only takes a few seconds to get their back in the race but
this won’t be the case with therapy. Listening takes time and you may
find yourself talking much more than you expected. Therapy is not a
quick fix. Be patient with the therapist and, most importantly,
yourself.
Each May tens of thousands of racing fans gather in Indianapolis to
watch the greatest spectacle in racing. Yelling and cheering over the
roar of the engines, they root for their favorite driver or team.
Believe it or not there are people who want to see you win as well.
They are committed to getting you back on track and running on all
cylinders.
